“tennis Return Of Serve”

Tennis challenge rule brain teaser?

A little while ago I posed the question, “A player serves a first serve which lands close to the service line, it is not called ‘out’ by the linesperson. The receiving player returns the ball for a clear winner. Can the server challenge the ‘in’ call of his serve in the hope that it is actually out & he’ll receive a second serve?”
I just wanted clarification on Bri Y’s answer. You say, “…the receiver get the call on the serve no matter what…”. Can you give me a link to your source for this fact? Is it in the rules? Is it what you assume or “know”? I’m not trying to be confrontational, just want to confirm facts.

YES, the server can challenge that call. the situation you mentioned actually happened in a match with Andy Roddick. He served and the returner hit a winner. Roddick challenged that his serve was out in hopes of getting a second serve rather than losing the point.

ADD- “Second set: Federer 1-3 Roddick
In a bizarre challenge, Roddick wants his own serve called out as he didn’t play the return thinking it was long. “
